If all parents, societies, and cultures wish
the best for their children and grandchildren, then it should be possible to work across cultures and societies, even those in conflict, to ensure the mental and physical well-being of their children
In 2016, Hadassah Medical Organization, a non-profit body, launched the Binational School of Psychotherapy (BSPT) to train and prepare Israeli and Palestinian mental health professionals in psychotherapy, based on the best practices in child and adolescent mental health treatment.
Though the program has been designed to address perhaps one of the largest concerns of all those involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, that is, the well-being of children and adolescents, building the technical capacity of the Palestinian and Israeli mental health professionals is the cornerstone strategy that would benefit the wider population in conflict.
However, the BSPT adequately addresses particularly the acute lack of well-trained mental health professionals in the West Bank and Gaza, and constitutes a unique opportunity to build mutual trust and shift perceptions among Israelis and Palestinian professionals, contributing to peacebuilding and life-changing experiences
